S&B Universal Air Filters

In the early years, S&B specialized in building custom universal filters for race teams and engine builders. S&B uses a washable and reusable 8-ply cotton-gauze filter for these applications to help protect the engine, while still providing the performance racers demand. All S&B cone air filters maintain high air flow characteristics designed to increase horsepower and acceleration. Each filter S&B produces is manufactured to the highest standards and submitted for CARB approval. In some cases, because of engineering innovations that are brand-new, approval is still pending. All S&B filters are washable and reusable

S&B utilizes robotics to precisely apply the correct amount of oil to your filter before it ships. To ensure maximum efficiency of your air filter it is recommended to clean and re-oil using a S&B Precision Cleaning & Oiling Kit at least every 12,000 miles. The specific cleaning interval will depend on your driving conditions. It is recommended that you inspect your filter every oil change or 6,000 miles. If debris has built up on your filter equal to the height of the wire mesh, your filter should be cleaned and re-oiled immediately. Servicing your filter more frequently will result in better performance.

ISO 5011 Standard

S&B backs up their claims by publishing ISO 5011 test results (the same standard used by most OEM's) on their filters and intake kits. Testing is performed at the vehicle's max rated airflow obtained at peak horsepower to ensure engine protection even under extreme driving conditions.

ISO is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies. The specific individual International Standard utilized by S&B and automotive manufacturers establishes and specifies uniform test procedures, conditions, equipment, and a performance report to permit the direct laboratory performance comparison of air cleaners, in this case, those used on internal combustion engines and compressors used in automotive and industrial applications. Testing to these high standards enables S&B to accurately measure their products against not only OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) equipment, but also against the competition, allowing S&B to establish the air filter performance benchmark, which they are determined to do.

The performance characteristics of greatest interest are airflow restriction (differential pressure), dust collection efficiency and dust capacity. The ISO 5011 Standard is what S&B Filters adheres to as they seek innovations and improvements in their product line, and to test their products so they meet the highest standard possible. They feel this is the standard that all performance filter manufacturers should be using to develop their products.
