Blue Demon Copper Coated Gouging Carbons are designed for cutting and gouging metals such as carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, aluminum, and some high temperature alloys. The process is one in which an air-carbon arc torch is used to create an electric arc which melts away the metal, then uses compressed air to "blow" the molten metal out of the groove. Gouging carbons come in both copper coated and plain, and are also available jointed for continuous feeding operations. The copper coating improves conductivity offering more efficient and cooler operation versus the plain style. The gouging carbons are also commonly called electrodes and just "carbons".
