Details

Don't be tricked by the "fool's gold"! Lava Mat™ outperforms that gold foil vinyl sticker stuff by reflecting 60% more radiant heat. Made from crushed volcanic rock, the Lava Mat™ has similar benefits as the but has a carbon fiber appearance. This heat shield insulator helps to reflect radiant heat away to provide an air box heat shield or a heat shield barrier for your carbon fiber or fiberglass hood. The Lava Mat™ can also be laid on a fire wall to shield radiant heat and give your vehicle that trick carbon fiber look. Lava Mat™ withstands 1200 Deg F direct continuous and 1800 Deg F intermittent. This heat shield barrier cloth, can be used with less than 1" of airspace, although 3/8" is the minimum recommended.

    Installation Tips

    Required tools:
    Patience
    Carburetor cleaner or other degreaser
Pre-paint cleaner, isoproyl alchohol or other non residue cleaner
Heavy duty scissors or utility knife
Optional - poster board or heavy paper

PRO TIP #1 - Use poster board or butcher paper to make a template. For surfaces with severe bends, it may be necessary to cut relief lines or wedges to get product to conform. Transfer template to Lava Shield and cut.

PRO TIP #2 - Provided by Kevin Byrd of “Two Guys Garage” fame, use super glue on the cut edges to give Lava Shield a fray free and custom edge. You can also use clear high-temperature engine paint on edges if fraying does occur.

PRO TIP #3 - Lava Shield may have wrinkles in it. Wrinkles can be removed during the installation process. You can also lay Lava Shield flat, and let it rest overnight with a heavy flat object on top of it to remove wrinkles before installation.

    1. Panel or component surface temperature should be at least 65°F when applying, sticking onto anything colder may not allow adhesive to set up properly.
    2. Degrease and clean surface of any residual chemicals, using carburetor spray or other cleaner/degreaser.
    3. We strongly recommend rubbing the surface with a pre-paint cleaner or isopropyl alcohol (or other non-residue cleaner) after cleaning and degreasing.
    4. Carefully peel the adhesive backing off the Lava Shield. Start peeling from one corner.
    5. Lay the Lava Shield, start on one edge of panel or component and work out slowly to ensure no “bubbles” occur. Air bubbles will cause the material to not stick and fall off.
    6. Press the Lava Shield firmly onto the panel/component. Hold while pressing down for 2 minutes.
