Details

This heat shield cloth has a high quality finish compared to other heat shield insulating mats. In addition it weighs 40% less than comparable aluminized fiberglass cloth products. When used in applications when there is 1" of airspace and air flow, Thermaflect™ Cloth is capable of reflecting 90% of radiant heat. Just face the aluminized side toward the source of radiant heat to shield heat away. This product withstands 1100 Deg F of radiant heat (requires minimum of 1" of airspace) and up to 450 Deg F of direct heat. It cuts easily with a pair of scissors, and the high temperature peel and stick adhesive will stick to most clean surfaces. Bulk rolls and custom widths are available, minimums apply. Please call for pricing and availability.

Motorcycle enthusiasts can use the Thermaflect™ Cloth as a heat shield for the bottom of your fuel tank, air box, fairings, and seat bottom. It prevents your fuel from boiling, stops pre-ignition, prevents critical components of your fuel from evaporating, and prevents vapor lock. This helps to keep your bike performance as crisp as it was when you started the race. You should also use this as a heat shield on your air box, to lower air intake temperatures by shielding radiant heat from your exhaust and shock; this will further improve the efficiency of your motor and create more horsepower. Thermaflect™ Cloth can also be used as a fairing heat shield, helping to prevent them from melting and ruining paint. It can also be used as a heat shield for the bottom of your seat on your custom cruiser.

Please note: It is not advised to pressure wash Thermaflect™ Cloth. Using Cool Foil Tape™ to protect the edges will help reduce the amount of damage pressure washing will do to this product.

    HP Heatshield Mat Installation tips
Be sure to use a 1" air-gap between HP Heatshield Mat and heat source for best results. HP Heatshield Mat is intended to be applied on the cold side of panel or component, i.e. it is not intended to direct contact with heat source.

    Required tools:
Heavy duty scissors or utility knife
    Carburetor cleaner or other degreaser
Pre-paint cleaner or other non residue cleaner
3M Super Trim adhesive or other spray adhesive (Part #710040 only)
Poster board, heavy paper - optional

PRO TIP - Use poster board or butcher paper to make a template. For surfaces with severe bends, it may be necessary to cut relief lines or wedges to get product to conform. Transfer template to HP Heatshield Mat and cut.

    1. Panel or component surface temperature should be at least 65°F, sticking onto anything colder may not allow adhesive to set up properly.
    2. Degrease and clean surface of any residual chemicals, using carburetor spray or other cleaner/degreaser.
    3. We strongly recommend rubbing the surface with a pre-paint cleaner or isopropyl alcohol (or other non-residue cleaner) after cleaning and degreasing. For part # 7110040, without adhesive, skip to Step 7.
    4. Carefully peel the adhesive backing off the HP Thermaflect Cloth. Start peeling from one corner.
    5. Lay the HP Heatshield Mat, start on one edge of panel or component and work out slowly to ensure no “bubbles” occur. Air bubbles will cause the material to not stick and fall off.
    6. Press the HP Heatshield Mat firmly onto the panel/component, hold while pressing down for 2 minutes. Skip to Step 9.
    7. Non adhesive product only - Use 3M Super Trim or Super 77 Adhesive. After HP Heatshield Mat has been cut, spray back of cloth and panel or component you are applying HP Heatshield Mat to.
    8. Allow adhesive to get tacky and apply cloth, start on one edge of panel or component and work out slowly to ensure no “bubbles” occur. Air bubbles will cause the material to not stick and fall off. Press firmly for 2 minutes.
    9. Optional - If using edge tape like Cool Foil Tape, clean the edge of HP Heatshield Mat with the pre-paint cleaner or isopropyl alcohol.
    10. Optional - Pre-fit and trim tape to fit the HP Heatshield Mat.
    11. Optional - It is important to do one edge/seam at a time with the edge tape.
    12. Optional - Peel adhesive backing off tape, press and firmly hold in place for 2 minutes.
